Kay is a poet and is able to have his characters, modern day 20 somethings, proclaim their love for each other in the style of epic poets or make huge declarations of war and it never feels cheesy or remotely out of place and I’ve never, ever encountered another author who could pull that off.

Early Kay though it may be, though, it’s still Kay, and no one but no one can play the heartstrings in quite the same way.

That being said, this novel wasn’t too bad.

The initial transition from Toronto to Fionavar is a bit rough. This complexity in character means that as the five change and grow through what they go through in Fionavar, I could never exactly predict how they’d react to certain situations or where the plot would take them. First, I’d think whoever was asking me to go was on drugs, and I would call the police so they could come pick up the crazy man wearing a robe But do yourself a favour, and don’t skip it.

A complete joy to read. And so begins this magical portal fantasy.

I really enjoyed this story. The next thd, Jennifer meets Brendel of the lios alfar and some of his people and goes riding dummer them.

While on holiday with them in the Netherlands I was thrown from my seat on a bus and injured my spine, which left me bedridden and unable to attend the goodbyes. There’s a gravity to it, a holiness and a reverence that makes you want to talk about its legends and history in a hushed voice.
