Admittedly, he isn’t steely and strategic like Babur, but that’s what his charm is.

Humayun comes across as a courageous, intelligent and driven man who, though lost the empire to begin rutherforv, ensured that he rectified his mistakes. Death and desolation nip at his heels and yet resolutely and with the help of a will as strong as steel he succeeds over his enemies.

In fact, there are many places where I loved the book. Humayun’s marriage to Hamida, the one Hindal had had eyes for did not go rjtherford well with Hindal.

I feel the author has mainly focused on Humayun and Hamida. Mar 02, Arun Batra rated it really liked it. My experience after having read some book series is that usually it is a one way downhill, first one being amazing and then you just continue through the rest of the series only to finish the story.

He tells himself that everything he has done has been necessary – moral, even. He also respects women and hence always make sure that their protection should be done with utmost care.

For me, this book provided a whole different perspective on Humayun’s character which was unbeknownst to me. He must rely on himself and the knowledge that there are more ways to subdue a man than on the battlefield. Nonetheless Humayun successfully holds his father’s empire for nearly ten years and conquers Gujarat before he suffers several setbacks that nearly cost him his throne.

He is by no way as endearing as his father but the simmering koghul he kept alive in the face of all the obstacles that he faced is truly an admirable one. The story looks at the macro view namely the rule of the Mughals and the micro view the finer details like how Humayun suffered during his exile, his love for opium, e Action, drama, heroism, deceit, loyalty, valor, honor, love, sex, betrayal, Plot also holds how treacheryhaughtiness and greediness cause the downfall of mghul the grand empire left by Babur but at the rutherfird time author had successfully embedded the fact that doesn’t matter how much bigger issues are they could be resolved by several waysDeath is not an answer in every case and how sometimes promises too need not be broken just for the cause of justice.

This book covers the story of Babur’s favourite child Humayun. But the only challenge he has that he hasn’t seen any real challenge as an emperor yet. Alex Rutherford has changed my entire belief. They are keen travellers and have now clocked up visits to over of the world’s countries. He brought the softer and artistic side of Moghul rule in India. Over the years we’ve also retraced the steps of the Moghuls from the Ferghana Valley in Kyrgyzstan — home to the first Moghul emperor, the boy-king Babur — to Iran and to the blue domes and minarets of Samarkand rutherforf Uzbekistan, across the red deserts to the Oxus River, over the Hindu Kush to Kabul and Afghanistan and down through the Khyber Pass to the plains of northern India.

His war with Sher Shah Suri and his on-court battle with his half brothers soon overwhelm him and ended his reign. His name was Jalal ud-din Muhammad Akbar and that is where I am headed next.
