This is an interesting concept and at times very insightful. This really struck me as different, it really captured my attention. The book is about coming to terms with your death, about enjoying your life no matter what strange form it is in.

Mostly it is disappointing. Firstly I have to admit I read gabriflle because I needed an author whose name started with z for a challenge. It’s sappy and hopelessly predictable. It’s quiet and peaceful. If that was all there was to it, I probably wouldn’t recommend this book so highly, but Zevin’s story of a girl’s growth after her own mortal life ends is anything but simple.

In fact, sometimes Elsewhere is even better than Earth, because you know exactly how much time you have left, and you try to never waste a single moment. It is a place everyone goes when they die.

I could see how it could bring comfort to a child dealing with the loss of a loved one and I can also see how elsewhre would be entertaining to a child who is interested in the author’s creation of the afterlife.
