Each of these characters maneuvers through the web of Oxford rivalries and plots, and has his own version of the story to tell. As with Stone’s Fall, there is more than a pinch of the supernatural sprinkled through An Instance finerpost the Fingerpost yet somehow it blended in far more instabce than in the former.

The device of four differing perspectives of the “murder” is ingenious and thee. I enjoyed Fingerpost far more than my first Iain Pears novel, A Dream of Scipio which also bills itself as a murder mystery on its back cover, but is most definitely not.
